
Valerie Ngooi Ming Hui
Valerie graduated from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom in 2002. After which, she obtained a Masters in Corporate and Commercial Law from Kings College, University of London, United Kingdom in 2003. Valerie was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2005.
On admission as an advocate and solicitor, Valerie commenced practice as a corporate commercial lawyer in October 2005 with Zaid Ibrahim & Co., a Malaysian premier law firm based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and was seconded to Zaid Ibrahim & Co.’s associate firm, Roosdiono & Partners in Jakarta, Indonesia after 1 ½ years of practice in Kuala Lumpur. Valerie was attached with Roosdiono & Partners for 3 years prior to joining Assegaf Hamzah & Partners in 2010.
Valerie advises on a wide spectrum of corporate and commercial matters including take-overs, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, corporate governance, licensing and regulatory approvals, exchange control regulations, foreign investments, new business ventures and investment vehicles, joint ventures, capital markets, securities laws, due diligence, drafting and reviewing commercial documents and papers and general corporate advisory works. In Indonesia, Valerie’s experience also covers an extensive range of corporate transactions, with specialization in M&A deals across sectors of plantations, oil & gas and property matters. Valerie has represented foreign investors from Asia, the United States, United Kingdom, Europe and Australia in a significant number of M&A transactions and foreign direct investments.
Recent key engagements include advising Malaysian, Korean, Australian and Singaporean investors in their respective acquisitions of oil palm plantation businesses in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Papua and other areas throughout Indonesia. Valerie also recently advised a Malaysian Government Linked Investment Company (GLIC) and its associated Malaysian and Indonesian group of companies in a joint venture involving 5 oil palm plantation companies in Kalimantan, Indonesia, a managing agent in Jakarta, Indonesia, a joint venture of an oil palm refinery in Batam, Indonesia and a proposed acquisition of an oil palm plantation company in south Kalimantan, Indonesia.
