Kanya Satwika

Kanya joined Assegaf Hamzah & Partners in May 2003, having earlier served as a paralegal with a number of other topflight Jakarta law firms. Prior to commencing her career as a practicing lawyer, she also worked with the Tifa Foundation, a non-governmental organization focused on promoting open government and good governance.

Since moving to AHP, Kanya has gained a reputation as one of Jakarta’s most promising young lawyers in the energy and mining sectors, and has been intimately involved in several power-plant projects being developed as part of the Indonesian government’s power sector expansion program, while at the same time also playing a leading role in a number of renewable energy initiatives. In addition, she has amassed considerable experience in the rapidly developing Islamic finance field. In fact, she was one of the leading lights in arranging the legal aspects of Indonesia’s first sovereign global Islamic bond in  2009.

Kanya holds a bachelor of law degree, majoring in transnational law, from the University of Indonesia, and an advocate's professional training certificate from the Indonesian Bar Association (PERADI), of which she is also an active member. While at university, she was an active member of the English Debating Society and the International Law Mooting Society, and represented the University of Indonesia in numerous competitions, both at the domestic and international levels.

Kanya has a deep interest in promoting legal education in Indonesia, and to this end regularly provides coaching to University of Indonesia law students on the finer points of legal debating.
