
Aulia Handayani Retna Ika
Aulia attended the University of Indonesia, from where she graduated with a bachelor of law degree in 2001. She also holds an advocate's professional training certificate from the Indonesian Bar Association (Peradi), of which she is an active member.
She commenced her legal career via the internship program at another leading Jakarta law firm, before joining Assegaf Hamzah & Partners in 2001. Since her arrival at AHP, she has played an indispensible role in assisting many of the firm’s most prominent clients in a variety of legal matters. Among the major corporations she has advised are leading telecommunications provider Indosat, international oil firm Petronas, and mining company Indika Resources. She is currently representing a geothermal energy firm in connection with the establishment of a number of subsidiaries to operate its plants around the country as part of its expansion plans.
Besides her other work, Aulia now focuses much of her energies on intellectual property rights. She also has a particular interest in the legal aspects of new technologies, and the challenges their regulation presents. In this regard, she has advised on the establishment of a number of popular internet portals, and is involved in providing advice on IP matters, including patent and trademark registration, to many of our blue-chip clients on both a retainer and incidental basis. Prior to commencing legal practice, she served as a research assistant at the University of Indonesia’s Law and Technology Research Center.
Besides her love of the law, Aulia is also an enthusiastic devotee of the performing arts, particularly dance and theater. In those rare moments when she finds herself with some free time, she likes to relax by losing herself to the strains of classic Italian opera.
