Arief Zakaria
Arief joined Assegaf Hamzah & Partners in 2006, after having earlier garnered extensive legal and commercial experience working with another of Jakarta’s top-tier law firms. Prior to that, he served as head of the legal and credit administration division at PT Bank OCBC Indonesia, an experience that provided him with valuable insights into the business processes of the banking and financial services industries.
At AHP, Arief focuses his practice on banking and finance (including M&A deals in the banking industry), as well as general corporate work. He is widely regarded as one of Indonesia’s leading practitioners in these fields, and has gained a well-earned reputation for client responsiveness thanks to his hands-on approach and deep understanding of a wide range of industries. Among the significant mandates he has worked on in recent years are representing PT. Bank Mandiri Tbk in the loan and debt restructuring of Domba Mas Group (2010), and advising PT Bukit Mutiara (a member of Recapital Group companies) on its USD 50,000,000 loan facility from Avenue Luxembourg SARL (2010).
Arief also plays a prominent role in AHP’s capital markets practice, having advised the joint lead underwriters in the PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk rights issue in 2010, and the respective underwriters of PT Summit Oto Finance’s and PT Oto Multiartha Tbk’s separate IDR 1 trillion bond issuances in 2010.
Arief is currently advising on the acquisition of a local bank by a Malaysian investor, and the Indonesian state’s high-profile divestment of its stake in PT Bank Mutiara Tbk.
Arief holds a bachelor of law degree (1995) from Parahyangan Catholic University in Bandung, where he was an active member of the Student Union and helped organize regular law-related seminars.
