
Ari Juliano Gema
Ari joined Assegaf Hamzah & Partners in 2001 after having earlier commenced his legal career at another premier Jakarta law firm.
At AHP, Ari specializes in the general corporate and investment, telecommunications, information technology and intellectual property fields. He has amassed a wealth of experience advising both domestic and international clients in a wide range of industries and sectors. Among the many ICT clients that Ari has represented are PT Indosat Tbk, one of the country’s leading telecommunications operators; Norwegian telecommunications giant Telenor; PT Asia Cellular Satellite and ACeS International Ltd; and Middle East telecommunications provider Qatar Telecom (QTel). He was also intimately involved in advising the Indonesia Stock Exchange (previously the Jakarta Stock Exchange) on the legal aspects related to the procurement of hardware and software for the bourse’s new automated trading system (JATS-RT).
Ari holds a bachelor of law degree, majoring in international law, from the University of Indonesia (facilitated by a scholarship from Sumitomo Bank, Japan), and an advocate's professional training certificate from the Indonesian Bar Association (Peradi) He is an active member of PERADI, the Indonesian Intellectual Property Consultants Association (AKHKI), and the International Trademark Association. He also attended intellectual property courses in Japan (2007) and Australia (2010).
Outside of his legal practice, Ari has a deep interest in both intellectual property issues and the fusion of law and technology. He authored a treatise on intellectual property which was published by Hukumonline. In addition, he has penned a number of published scholarly articles and maintains a personal blog where he writes about law and society at http://www.arijuliano.com. He is also an active participant in other social media and discussion groups, particularly those that allow him to pursue his interests in technology and the law.
