Aisyah Rahmarani Siregar

Rani came to Assegaf Hamzah & Partners as a fresh graduate in January 2010. Her earlier outstanding promise in law school has been more than realized at AHP, and she is rapidly establishing a name for herself as a skilled and dedicated lawyer.

Despite an earlier inclination towards academic law, Rani quickly realized that her true calling lay in the complex and challenging world of commercial law, and she now focuses her practice on capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and foreign direct investment. Among recent important mandates that she has worked on are a USD 2,500,000,000 global bond issuance by the Republic of Indonesia, and a USD 115,000,000 bond issuance by Indo Integrated Energy B.V., guaranteed by PT Indika Energy Tbkm both in 2011. She also participated in PT Indosat’s USD650,000,000 global bond offering in 2010, and the merger of PT Tri Polyta Indonesia Tbk, a subsidiary of PT Barito Pacific Tbk, in its merger with PT Chandra Asri to produce PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk, also in 2010.

She is currently representing a major Malaysian bank in the “fit-and-proper test” process at Bank Indonesia as part of its takeover of an Indonesian bank, and the Indonesian Deposit Insurance.

Rani graduated in 2009 from the University of Indonesia with a bachelor of law degree (majoring in law and economics). She wrote her thesis on the World Trade Organization-sponsored Agreement on Trade Related Investment Matters (TRIMS) and its implications for Indonesia, signaling an early interest in investment law, one of her primary focuses at AHP. While in law school, she participated in a wide range of extracurricular activities. Among her other notable achievements, she served as the vice president of the International Board of the Asian Law Students Association (ALSA) for the 2007-2008 period. She was also an outstanding success in mooting, and participated in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition in Vienna, Austria. Rani perfected her command of English by spending her final year at school at Owatonna High School, Owatonna, in the US state of Minnesota, which she says greatly enriched and broadened her outlook.

Rani loves nothing better than soaking up the beauty of nature whenever she gets the chance. She also treasures interaction with other cultures and has a deep appreciation of different viewpoints and outlooks. In the same vein, she is actively engaged in various initiatives to promote peace and intercultural understanding.
